Traffic on School Grounds2 November 2021 (by Tricia Douglas (admin)) |
I have become increasingly concerned that large volumes of traffic coming onto school grounds is causing a risk to the safety of pupils, parents and staff. This is particularly evident on a Friday at home time.
Following an assessment by myself and members of Premises, I am now changing how traffic enters the school on FRIDAY AFTERNOON ONLY!
Pupils attending Nursery School will now finish at 1.15pm and NOT 1.30pm (THIS IS ON FRIDAY ONLY. Cars used by Parents/Guardians and Blue Badge holders will only be allowed access to the school site on a Friday afternoon. On Friday Parents/Guardians of pupils from P1-P7 are asked to walk into school to collect their children.
I am also concerned that a small minority of parents continue to park on double yellow lines, block access roads and at times show a lack of courtesy to other parents. Regrettably,8 I was made aware last week that some parents were verbally abusive to other parents and members of staff. This behaviour is not acceptable nor will it be tolerated.
As Principal of the school, my priority is for the safety of all our pupils and staff. These measures are intended to keep everyone safe. I shall be carefully monitoring the traffic on the school site this week. If I think that pupils leaving school at 2pm and 3pm(Monday - Thursday), are at risk, I will not hesitate to extend these changes to the rest of the week. I will be keeping the situation under review.
I would ask for your co-operation with these changes.
Mr J McDaid (Principal)
